The Fast Lane for iOS

by Dave Michels

Last August Cisco and Apple announced a partnership to improve the usability of Apple iOS devices in enterprises.

A partnership to create a fast lane for iOS business users by optimizing Cisco networks for iOS devices and apps, integrating iPhone with Cisco enterprise environments and providing unique collaboration on iPhone and iPad.”

The result was announced in June and involved a tighter integration between  Cisco’s Wi-Fi gear and iOS. There are three components to the solution: Improved Roaming, Packet/traffic prioritization, and App Integration. In this video, I asked wireless expert Michael Finneran to describe what’s under the covers. It’s a reasonable elegant solution that does as promised. Even better, for non iOS users, it prioritizes Android traffic too – that that last part isn’t in the brochure.

One of these days, I will figure out how to look into the camera.
