Polycom Downsizes its SIP Saucer

by Dave Michels

Polycom today announced their newest SIP saucer the IP 5000. This SoundStation rounds out the company’s high-quality conference phone portfolio and fills a gap in the market by providing a conferencing solution for smaller rooms. It supports HD Voice and takes up little space on the table. It is also interference resistant, so a room full of cell phones won’t create annoying hum.
There really isn’t much to say about this saucer. It works and delivers what we have all come to expect from Polycom, but in a smaller package.
Probably the biggest question is what took so long? Its bigger brother, the IP 7000, was an instant success, but its size and list price of $1339 was just too much for smaller rooms. The IP 5000 has a list price of $599 – and complements the line with a smaller room solution. Like the IP 7000, it is powered over POE.
The phone will be available next month. While waiting for availability, you may want to brush-up on Polycom’s Top 10 Conference Phone Etiquette Tips.
