A Closer Look at Insta360
A company rooted in action cameras has brought a different set of assumptions to wireless audio, desktop video, and meeting-room collaboration. The company’s enterprise collaboration portfolio now includes the Insta360 Mic Pro wireless microphone system, the Insta360 Link 2 Pro 4K tracking webcam, the Insta360 Wave AI-enabled desktop speakerphone, and the Insta360 Connect dual-camera video bar.
Following our InfoComm 2026 PickHitz showcase, TalkingPointz has expanded our coverage to include Insta360, a company we historically have not tracked closely. That is changing because Insta360 has moved beyond the action-camera and content-creation markets into professional audio, webcams, speakerphones, and meeting-room video systems.
What makes this interesting is not simply that another manufacturer has entered the unified communications and collaboration, or UC&C, market. There are already plenty of companies making webcams, microphones, speakerphones, and video bars. Insta360 attracts our attention because it is approaching these categories from outside the traditional UC industry.
That was one of the reasons Insta360 caught our attention. The company comes from a segment where tracking moving subjects, stabilizing images, working in unpredictable environments, and simplifying content creation are fundamental requirements. It is now applying some of those skills and assumptions to collaboration products.
That outside-in approach matters. Traditional UC manufacturers often begin with the requirements of a meeting platform or conference room and then build hardware around them. Insta360 appears to be looking at how people record, present, move, create, and communicate, identifying gaps it believes the existing products leave behind, and then building devices intended to fill those gaps.
Insta360 Mic Pro: A Wireless Microphone System With Considerable Depth
The first Insta360 collaboration-adjacent product that caught our attention was the Insta360 Mic Pro wireless microphone system, which we initially encountered at the 2026 NAB Show.
The configuration we have been using includes two wireless microphone transmitters and a separate receiver, although we are told it supports up to four transmitters. Each transmitter incorporates three microphones, directional pickup options, internal recording, AI noise cancellation, 32-bit float audio, automatic gain control, and a unique, customizable E-Ink display on its front. It also comes in a custom-fit charging case that keeps the microphones optimized for use.
The receiver can connect to computers, phones, cameras, and recording equipment through several methods, including a direct plug-in or wired USB-C connection, an optional Lightning adapter for older iPhones and iPads, and a 3.5 mm analog audio output for cameras and other recording systems.
Audio recorded with the Insta360 Mic Pro has been outstanding. We have begun integrating it into the recording system we use for interviews, conferences, and industry events, although we are still only scratching the surface of what the system can do.
That leads to our one criticism, which is also an indication of the product’s depth. The receiver contains so many menus, routing choices, channel modes, gain controls, recording options, and transmitter settings that we have not yet figured out how to use all of them optimally. It could take months of experimentation before we fully understand which configuration is best for every recording scenario.
Fortunately, that complexity does not prevent basic operation. We did not need to master the deeper menus before we could connect the system and produce good audio. The advanced capabilities are available when needed, but they do not have to be understood before the Mic Pro can be useful.
For people evaluating a wireless microphone system for trade-show interviews, field recording, panel discussions, livestreaming, video production, or event coverage, the Insta360 Mic Pro offers considerably more flexibility than its compact appearance initially suggests. Its customizable E-Ink displays also provide the flexibility to brand or identify the user or event as needs arise. We have it set with the TalkingPointz logo, as we believe everyone should if they want to show off good taste.
Insta360 Link 2 Pro: A Webcam That Can Behave Like a Production Camera
We have also been using the Insta360 Link 2 Pro on one of our workstations for approximately a month.
The Insta360 Link 2 Pro is a 4K, gimbal-based tracking webcam built around a 1/1.3-inch sensor with Dual Native ISO, HDR, autofocus, a wide field of view, and a two-axis gimbal. From an image-quality perspective, it belongs in the same conversation as several of the premium desktop cameras we regularly use. The larger sensor is particularly relevant in home offices and workspaces where the lighting is less controlled than it would be in a studio.
The Insta360 Link 2 Pro can function as a conventional webcam, sending its video feed directly into Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, recording software, or another application. It can also send video through its included Insta360 Virtual Camera software.
That distinction is important. The virtual-camera feed provides controls that are often associated with a meeting platform rather than with the camera itself, including virtual backgrounds, image adjustments, whiteboard tools, makeup and appearance features, and other presentation controls. A user can therefore make those adjustments before the image reaches the selected meeting or recording application – and add them to platforms that do not natively support them. One example would be adding a virtual background to the camera when connecting to a telehealth or financial call through the provider’s proprietary platform.
The Link 2 Pro also includes physical, gimbal-based subject tracking. That makes it useful for someone who stands while presenting, moves around in front of a workstation, demonstrates physical objects, teaches from a small room, or installs the camera in a compact phone booth or focus room. Rather than requiring the person to remain centered in a fixed webcam frame, the camera can physically follow the subject.
Tracking is not necessary for everyone. Many people sit in one position for the duration of a call. But for presenters, instructors, content creators, and executives who prefer to stand or move while speaking, it provides a capability that is still unusual in a webcam-sized device.
The Insta360 Link 2 Pro is therefore relevant to several overlapping use cases: executive desktop video, home-office collaboration, online instruction, livestreaming, content production, product demonstrations, and small focus spaces where a conventional fixed camera may be too limiting.
Insta360 Wave: Audio, Recording, and Meeting Intelligence
We have not yet had the opportunity to spend hands-on time with the Insta360 Wave to offer a product evaluation, but its design is another reason we are impressed with the company.
The Insta360 Wave is an AI-enabled desktop speakerphone built around an eight-microphone array. It supports multiple pickup patterns, including omnidirectional, cardioid, supercardioid, figure-eight, and stereo configurations. It also includes local meeting recording, transcription, AI-generated summaries, speaker identification, and a pre-recording function that can preserve the previous five minutes after recording is activated.
The Insta360 Wave can operate independently as a USB, Bluetooth, or dongle-connected speakerphone. It can also work with the Insta360 Link 2 Pro webcam, which is designed to fit right on top, using the direction of a speaker’s voice to help the camera identify and frame the active speaker.
That combination is intended to create a modular audio-and-video system for individual workspaces and small-group meetings in a true “one plus one equals much more than two” configuration. The market distinction is the combination of speakerphone audio, local recording, transcription, AI-generated meeting intelligence, and coordinated camera control in a single desktop system.
Insta360 Connect: A Dual-Camera Video Bar for Meeting Rooms
The Insta360 Connect is the company’s dual-camera, all-in-one video bar for small and midsize meeting rooms. Again here, we have seen the product demonstrated but have not yet used it enough to judge its performance.
Connect combines a wide-angle 4K camera with a separate telephoto 4K camera mounted on a gimbal. It is the very first time we have seen a camera gimbal embedded in a video bar behind glass, again stressing one of Insta360’s innovative approaches. It also includes a 14-microphone array, integrated speakers, speaker tracking, group framing, gallery views, whiteboard capabilities, and USB connectivity for use with major video-conferencing platforms.
The dual-camera architecture is notable because it gives the system two different ways of viewing the room. The wide-angle camera can maintain awareness of the entire group, while the telephoto gimbal camera can capture a closer image of the person speaking. The combination of wide-angle room awareness and gimbal-based telephoto speaker framing is the Insta360 Connect’s clearest market distinction.
Insta360 also supports combining Connect with additional Insta360 Link 2 cameras to provide more coverage in larger or more complex spaces, again here making the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
Why Insta360
Insta360 clearly deserves recognition as an enterprise collaboration company introducing products with enough originality, innovation, and practical capability to deserve ongoing evaluation – especially in a market often saturated with me-too products. Insta360 is bringing experience from action cameras, 360-degree imaging, subject tracking, field recording, and creator workflows into the professional collaboration and workplace collaboration technology markets. That background appears to be influencing both the capabilities it prioritizes and the form factors it develops.
Insta360 should now be recognized not only as an action-camera manufacturer, but also as an enterprise collaboration technology company operating in wireless audio, 4K desktop video, AI-enabled speakerphones, and meeting-room video systems.
