John Oliver Reads TalkingPointz

by in Telecom

I must conclude that John Oliver of HBO’s Last Week Tonight reads TalkingPointz. What other conclusion can be made? He recently did a segment on some serious shortfalls with our 911 system – all of which here identified by Colin on TalkingPointz.

When Oliver was on Comedy Central, he took a liberal/left stance on issues. On HBO he tends to take on the neutrally absurd. It’s not an easy transition and demonstrated by Colbert with his move to CBS. 911 is a perfect topic for Oliver. Most are unaware how bad things are, and it it deserves more attention. It idea of calling 911 and getting “all operators are busy” used to be a joke, but it’s become real.

  • Wrong 911:¬†Dialing 911 doesn’t mean you will get the right PSAP, and there’s not much they can do if you get to the wrong one.
  • Locating 911: 911 centers often have no idea where you are calling from.
  • 911 Sham or Shame Part 1 and Part 2: Gross mismanagement of 911.
  • Do You Support 112? The more universal 911.

Honorable mention to me because back in 2008 I wrote 9 to Get Out is Out. Now it’s known as¬†Kari’s Law.
